Undergraduate student shares her favorite study spots on the University of Denver campus

(1) The Garden Behind Mary Reed
University of Denver’s (DU) campus has so many breath-taking spots, but one place that is hidden in plain sight is the garden area behind Mary Reed. The sound of waterfalls flowing in the background will make you forget that you are even studying. The tall trees and ponds with lily pads create a small hidden place for you to do homework while enjoying the outdoors.
(2) Study Pods in Anderson Academic Commons
Libraries are often the common response from students when asked where they study the most. A unique spot in Anderson Academic Commons is on the bottom floor, where there are individual study pods for you to work in. These pods let you spread out all your work while being somewhat enclosed, eliminating distractions you may have.
(3) Study Rooms in Sturm College of Law
Often during finals, it is hard to find a place to study when Anderson Academic Commons is packed. The Sturm College of Law has lots of study rooms that are available for DU students to use, if no one from the Law School requests one. These big rooms have whiteboards and long tables so you and your friends can study together and when you need a study break, there is a nice view of the mountains.
(4) Outside of Halls and J-Mac
During the times of Covid-19 and online classes, it is often difficult to find opportunities to leave your room when not as much is going on. DU has a lot of outdoor space for you and your friends to enjoy Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine. Grab your hammock and take your homework outside with your friends to get some fresh air.

(5) Study Rooms in Nelson and Nagel Halls
Need to work on a group project with people in your building or want to change your studying scenery to something other than your bed? The study rooms in Nelson and Nagel Halls are perfect for times when it is snowing, and you don’t feel like walking to the library, or when you need to pull an all-nighter but don’t want to walk home from another study spot late at night. There are different sized rooms so you can study by yourself or work on homework with other people from your floor.
It is important to be comfortable while you are studying in order to be productive. After reading about these five study spots, hopefully you can find the spot that works best for you, whether it is a place outside or somewhere else inside other than your room.
