Q&A with Noah Taxman, founder of Snax With Tax

Noah Taxman is a third-year student at the University of Denver. He plans to major in finance and minor in entrepreneurship. He began his startup, the snack delivery service Snax With Tax, to provide efficient and accurate services to snack lovers like himself. The E@DU team sat down with Taxman to discuss Snax With Tax, his love of cryptocurrencies and future ventures in the pipeline.

Q: How did you get involved with Entrepreneurship@DU?

A: I took BUS 1440: The Fourth Industrial Revolution with Joshua Ross. I was immediately hooked by his interest in cryptocurrency. I really never had a teacher legitimize the belief of cryptocurrency like Joshua. Not only that, the second class I took with him was a 2-credit class on cryptocurrencies and the blockchain. It was incredibly interesting. A lot of what I studied before, I had never been that interested in what I was learning about. I had been interested in cryptocurrency since sophomore or junior year of high school, so I’ve been doing that for a while, and I really appreciated learning about that in a school setting. And, just the whole entrepreneurial mindset got me way more excited than I feel like I’ve been about real estate, which is what I study now.

Q: Could you tell us more about your passion for cryptocurrencies?

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and I have always been an investor. I started the Cryptocurrency Investment Club at Highland Park High School when I was a sophomore in high school, so I was giving all these alt coin presentations after school when I was just 15 or 16 years old. So, I really believe in the future of cryptocurrency—I think that is how we all will be transacting one day, using blockchain technology. So I keep myself as involved as much as possible. The last year or so has been quite volatile, a total rollercoaster. But that’s what crypto is! You gotta HODL (AKA: “hold on for dear life,” a very common term in the crpyto world)!

Q: How did Snax With Tax get started?

A:  I am a snacker. There’s no beating around the bush. All hours of the day, I’m hungry. I wake up in the middle of the night, I’m hungry. In Chicago, there’s an overwhelming amount of options late at night, but here, there’s not as many options. We’re in Colorado, and we’re on a college campus, and there’s just not that much food you can get late at night, or food you can get quickly and conveniently. So I saw a big gap in the system. Instead of sitting there complaining, I thought, you know, I could fix this. It wasn’t for a class or anything, I just thought, why don’t I create this service? Why don’t I create something that could deliver quicker than companies like, for example, GoPuff. With them, you order something like Cheetos, toothbrushes, supplies, etc., and not only would you wait way longer than the estimated time of delivery, but it wouldn’t even be the right order! I think the attention to detail and efficiency is important, and I thought I could maximize that.

So I decided to start Snax With Tax. I started off just delivering to myself, to guarantee a 30-minute delivery time just taking orders through the DM. Then, we implemented a Google survey and our link in bio which would create an automatic order. This was paired up with an excel spreadsheet with all of our inventory, so it automatically drew from inventory what an order was and then placed it. I’ve actually hired a freshman in each dorm to be a pickup location, so you can go knock on their door and pick up snacks from them if you are a freshman. I was the only one who would drive for liability reasons—my dad is a personal injury attorney, and he told me there could be issues if I had someone employed and they were driving. So I decided I would be the only one. It was a great experience. I ordered a bunch of stickers. I actually ended up selling the business over the summer!

Q: What’s next for Snax With Tax?

A: Well, the buyer I sold it to decided it would be too much to run with school. So I’m going to be running it again. We’re making a little bit of a comeback and doing something with new branding. We are going to sell exotic snacks. We found this new candy store that we love called Bubble Pop Candy Shop and they have all these exotic candies and imported chips from places like Japan, and lots of cool stuff like, for example, Krispy Kreme popcorn. I’m really excited to give it a go and rebranding will create some new excitement for the company.

Q: Is Snax With Tax your only venture?

A: Right now we are pitching a sort of media group. We want to run these businesses under one umbrella. We have an Instagram account (@designated_confusion) where we give out cryptocurrency advice and sell crypto subscriptions. We also have @runitup_ripz, which is another Instagram account where we open sports cards for people on live streams and then they can buy packs from us. The hustle is nonstop!
