Comcast president, special counsel to the CEO provides consultation and mentorship to Department of Management faculty, students

Steven A. White

Steven A. White, President, special counsel to the CEO of Comcast Cable, joins 13 other executives in residence at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business. The Daniels Executive in Residence (EIR) Program encourages meaningful engagement in the life of the College by senior executives whose perspectives can shape and add value to students, faculty, staff, College leadership and departments within Daniels. White’s residence will be within Daniels’ Department of Management.

White currently works with Comcast Cable leadership on strategic planning, leadership programing and development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and the advancement of digital equity. Most recently, White served as president of Comcast’s West Division, where he was the senior executive responsible for all Comcast Cable operations in 13 states.

“We are delighted to welcome Steve into his EIR role in the Management Department,” says Charles Dhanaraj, professor and Evelyn & Jay G. Piccinati Endowed Chair of Daniels’ Department of Management. “Our focus is to build ethical leaders for a digital future. Steve will be instrumental in furthering our focus on inclusive leadership. He has an intimate knowledge of the digital world and has been a national voice for ethical leadership in business.”

Daniels Dean Vivek Choudhury says, “I am thrilled to have Steve on board. I know we will benefit greatly from his counsel and feedback on our vision for Daniels.”

White’s experience and knowledge will help inform the College’s strategy for advancing its inclusive leadership research and instruction, and the University’s drive to train leaders to transform their workplaces, communities, and world. He will engage with students, bring a practice-based insight to faculty research, and share his knowledge as a keynote speaker.

White has more than 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, operations and general management in the beverage, health and beauty care, household products and telecommunications industries. He serves on the board of directors of Hormel Foods, W.W. Grainger and Shaw Communications. In addition, he is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, Delta Boule’ Denver and the Board of Directors of New Leaders, a nonprofit focused on the development of public-school principals. White is writing a leadership book, Uncompromising, which will be released in February 2022.

In acknowledging the University’s invitation to join as an EIR, Steve says, “Since 1864, the University of Denver has been one of the most important institutions for higher learning and its unique focus on developing young leaders has been its hallmark. I am excited to join the distinguished Department of Management leadership team and assist in continuing its rich tradition.”

White’s EIR position is the latest in Comcast’s robust corporate partnership with the Daniels College of Business. Comcast executives are actively involved as guest speakers in the classroom, serve on industry panels, judge student competitions, provide business cases for study, financially sponsor key programs and actively recruit Daniels students for job and internship opportunities. Comcast also partners with the College on leadership training programs for members of their team. Through this breadth of engagement, Comcast is a model for how Daniels strives to engage with industry on strategic partnerships.
